MAKING MONEY ON eBAY

What are Your Priorities?

By Bob Hamilton

One of the challenges that everyone faces as they start and grow an eBay business is determining

the right priorities. Making money on eBay requires that the entrepreneur remain focused on the right business priorities at all times. Yet as every business owner knows, there are many, many ‘hats’ that must be worn to achieve success. With those many hats come a multitude of tasks. So what are you to do?

First it is important to acknowledge that an eBay business is no different from any other business. As with all businesses that are growing, an eBay business is going to be require many more tasks to be performed than there is time to actually complete. In fact, at times the number of tasks lying ahead may seem overwhelming. That is the time to ask if all of the tasks are really of equal importance. After all, if you can’t do everything, you want to make sure that you at least get the mission-critical tasks out of the way first. Making money on eBay requires that those mission-critical tasks be completed in a timely manner. Then if time allows, other lower priority tasks can be completed.

Making money on eBay requires that you remain focused on performing those tasks that translate into customer satisfaction and successful sales first. You must know what needs to be done. As you proceed down the priority list, it is important that you know the importance of all the various tasks in relation to your overall business success.

Let’s example a few obvious examples:

  • If you have ten items that have been sold and paid for and are awaiting pulling and packaging, reading a new ebook that you just received will probably need to wait.
  • Answering prospective eBay buyer questions needs to come before assembling a sample of a new product that you are considering for sales next month.
  • Dealing with an unhappy customer always comes first whether the issue is your fault or their fault. There should never be an exception to this rule.
  • Listing new items that you planned to list yesterday comes before going to make a bank deposit.
  • The list goes on……

As your eBay business continues to grow, you should examine other options. Do you need to add a part-time person to help? Is there a family member who can help? Are there tasks that can be streamlined? Are there tasks that can be eliminated? In fact, every time you find that you are beginning to feel overwhelmed or unable to keep up, these are the questions that you need to ask AND ANSWER for your business.

It is your decision to make. What are your priorities? What are the key actions that you must take to ensure that your business continues to prosper and grow? One of the keys to making money on eBay is prioritization. You simply need to make sure that you are doing the right tasks at the right time.
