Make Money on eBay

One of the biggest worries about being on vacation when you have a high-volume eBay business is being able to

 
run the business as usual during your absence. Earlier this year, covering eBay absences was a worry for us. We were gone several weeks to attend in-person seminars and on buying trips. Each trip resulted in a lot of frustration as we tried to continue managing auctions, corresponding with bidders, dealing with merchandise deliveries. We also had the knowledge that a huge pile of paid-for merchandise was awaiting shipment during our absence. The bottom line was that to achieve our goal to make money on eBay we needed to cover absences more effectively.

 

Each time we were absent forced us to make a decision. Either we could post our absence dates and create a blank in our auction-ending dates. The other option was to gamble with poor customer service by not promptly answering questions and shipping products. Both options meant a risk to our ability to make money on eBay.

 

These options did not meet our goal to make money on eBay. Between the two, shutting down was the one that least impacted our customers. As a result we chose that option. Therefore, we took a huge hit in earnings each and every time that we were gone.

 

To address this problem, and ensure that our business customers continue to be served, we have added a person who can cover during our absences. The business keeps on rolling along. Our customers are served as if we were present and running the business ourselves. Products are shipped upon receipt of payment. In essence, no-one really knows that we are away, and we make money on eBay while gone!

 

There are other creative methods to make money on eBay that might be worth considering. For example, we were also considering locating other eBayers in our area to propose a trade. We provide coverage when they are gone in exchange for them covering our absences. Had we found the right person(s), we saw this as a win-win for all.

 

We also examined transitioning our business to digital products (e-Books, CDs, DVDs) only. Since our business is built on tangible products that our customer want and need, we quickly decided that this was not the right solution at this time. This may be a solution for you, however. You could easily make money on eBay during absences with these products.

 

No matter how you handle this challenge, I encourage you to remember that every person needs to take time off and away from their business. Be sure that you plan for time off in advance of actually taking it. The important thing is that you do periodically take time off to rest, relax and recharge. You can make money on eBay during those absences, however.
